拍品书口下方刻“善成堂”字样，为著名刻书坊，是书刻印俱佳、文字清晰，书品颇佳。内容将药物分为10部。收集药物近5000种。每种以小字记其产地，形态，药味，文字描述准确，对各种药物采集、储存以及药性进行全面介绍，尤其对药品的形态，用版画进行描述。药材图绘画精当，文字描述准确到位，至今仍被许多中药学家认为是开启中药药材学的第一部著作，对从事医药工作者极具参考价值。
