Kurt Hertzog (USA) burr cherry bowl 7x29cm. SignedMy recollections of Ray go back to my beginnings in turning. I met Ray at one of my earliest AAW Symposiums. I remember sitting in on every one of his rotations. I was fascinated by his stacked pagoda lidded box series. Ray was not only a very talented demonstrator but a very enjoyable personality. His stories of his years of turning and all of the players in the industry were fascinating. Over the years, I had the pleasure to see him many times on his trips to the US.I tried to take classes with him at Arrowmont for many years but either my schedule didn’t permit it or his class was full. I finally did get that opportunity to spend a week studying with Ray at Arrowmont. I believe it was Ray’s last class at Arrowmont. I am extremely pleased that I did get the chance to attend that class.My recollections of Ray are always favorably colored with his wonderful stories and willingness to help anyone who asked him.
