Neil Turner (Australia) textured burr elm bowl 11x17cm. SignedDuring ones life there are people you would like to meet , from an early time in my woodturning journey Ray Key was one person I would have liked to have met. I remember looking through woodturning books and magazines seeing work made by makers all over the world, from my memory the simplicity of Ray Key's forms was the lasting impression I have, especially his boxes. Just simple shapes with a purity that could not be faulted.I was very honored to be asked to work on one of Rays blanks , I have just lightly trued up the outside shape making sure to have Ray’s finger print on the piece. There were some rather large holes in one part of the form I was able to use some inspiration gather while traveling with Nick Agar in the North West of Western Australia. We visited Geikie Gorge on the Fitzroy River there the water had erode a fantastic texture on the rock surfaces around some holes, this seemed like a perfect opportunity to try this texture, with a small amount of a water motif underneath.Finish is a spray lacquer 30% satinThe Ray Key Collaboration Auction
