Stuart Mortimer (UK) coloured ash hollow form 27x12cm. SignedI got to know Ray through the Practical Woodworking shows at Wembley and Sandown Park race course. I was at the beginning of my career in wood turning and Ray was a highly regarded production turner, established demonstrator at home and abroad and respected judge. We quickly became friends and a little later worked together with most of the best known wood Turners within the craft at numerous locations both at home and abroad.Ray and his wife Liz were strong supporters of the Young Turners Training and Development Programme that was initially started at Hope Cottage the home of my beloved late wife Linda and I.We made lots of great friends over the years and had lots of fun along the way, some very fond memories, we also worked together as Liveryman with the Worshipful Company of Turners who have been fantastic supporters of our craft and woodturning in general.I obviously got to know and understand Rays method and style of working. It was my pleasure to work on a small piece of Ash already formed by Ray in one of his favourite and well known shapes, it was not difficult for me to hollow out, to retain and reflect Rays form and intention for the piece. All I had to do was colour and add my signature pig tail twist in black wood at the top with a Blackwood base.I wish the AWGB all the success with the exhibition in honour of Ray one of our best our best Ambassadors in woodturning and one of the former founders of our Association.The Ray Key Collaboration Auctionn
