A HU WENMING BRONZE VASE, BAJIXIANG
China, Wanli period, 1573-1619. The vessel finely cast with the Eight Buddhist Emblems and several other auspicious objects in high relief above a neatly punched ground. The recessed base with a raised foot rim bearing the seal mark Hu Wenming zhi.
Provenance: From an old Austrian private collection. Then with Galerie Asboth, Vienna, ca. 1990. Acquired by an Austrian private collector from the above and thence by descent. A copy of the original expertise issued by Galerie Asboth at the time of purchase is accompanying this lot.
Condition: Old wear and traces of use, few minor nicks here and there. Very few remnants of gilding.
