A Victorian coromandel and gilt brass bound casket, retailed by Asprey of London, circa 1860, of rectangular form, the hinged cover inset with an armorial with the motto PARTA TUERI (Defend what you have won), the ends with recessed brass swing handles; the cover interior with ASPREY. MANUFACTURER TO HER MAJESTY, 166 BOND ST. W. in gilt tooled lettering; above a fully fitted interior, the fall front opening to two drawers, with recessed brass handles, 23cm high, 42cm wide, 33cm deep. Please note: 'The crest and motto on the lid are for the Powys family of Lilford. Given the date of manufacture the casket was likely owned by either the 3rd of 4th Baron Lilford, the first a prominent politician and the latter a famous ornithologist
