An interesting Rolex Oyster watch, the case inscribed 'J. O. Montanaro 1936' Royal Marines Interest, the watch with chromed cushion case and circular dial, Arabic numerals and subsidiary seconds dial, 15 jewel movement, case no 1072, width 32mm, some pitting to case and discolouration to dial, watch running, John Oliver Montanaro was a Lieutenant in the Royal Marines serving on HMS Durban, on 3rd October 1939 in the South Atlantic Montanaro went missing, initially presumed dead his father a Colonel was informed, later a court of inquiry received information that he may still be living and an arrest warrant was issued, in 1948 death was again presumed, the vendors research is included in the sale which may cast further doubt on the 1948 conclusion
