A 17th Century German (possibly Nuremberg ) painted steel "Armada" chest or strong box the whole with strapwork reinforcing, the interior of the lid with ornate lock throwing five bolts covered with pieced steel plate engraved with leaf scroll ornament and two hunting dogs (one bearing later date 1790) the front with two hasp fittings flanking false lockplate and with two folding carrying handles to sides, 27ins wide x 15.5ins deep x 15ins high and original key for same
