Absolutely stunning Antique French Boulle clock by Balthazar Martinot. This French beauty is topped with an angel playing the trumpet with a frond in her hand. She stands atop the red cabinet that displays brass trellis work. Below the angel, in back, is a single chime bell. The designs in the trellis work along the front are scroll and show squirrels and along the sides show Putti on swings. The ormolu mount on top show scrolls and a front facing woman's head. The top of the clock also has four urn finials that appear to have flames coming from each. The glass door front of the clock opens to reveal hand painted Roman numerals set in an ornate clock face. Below the clock face is a cartouch that reads "Bathazar Martinot AParis". Also below the clock face and flanking the the clock maker's name shows female sphinxes facing outwards and below them, Griffons facing one another. The back opens to reveal brass works with no visible markings. The case has applied caryatids at the back and applied busts on front that flow into a flower motif. The bowed out base of the clock has applied S scrolls that start with what appears to be a lion heads that melts into acanthus leaves and ends with male right and left facing heads, both facing a female head in the bottom center of the clock case. Movement is marked, L.G. for Le Guay & LG73. Movement does work, it does not keep accurate time. Chime appears to be slow and not a strong, ding, when necessary. The clock stands on what appears to be acorn type feet. Overall approx measurements are 36 1/2" x 16" x 5 3/4".
