A private collection of Chinese cricket cages and related items - a fine 19th century Chinese gourd cricket cage of moulded baluster form, carved with the Eight Horses of Mu Wang in a continuous landscape with 3-character calligraphy, the ivory mounted tortoiseshell cover carved with two free moving butterflies among scrolling flowers, with ivory collar & footrim, the underside with moulded Daoguang 4-character mark and of the period, 5.7ins. (14.4cms.) high.
