Late 3rd-early 2nd millennium BC. A mixed group of bronze stamp seals, some accompanied by an old scholarly note, typed and signed by W.G. Lambert, late Professor of Assyriology, University of Birmingham, 1970-1993, which states: (T-788) 'A Stamp Seal of Bronze, 47 x 46 x 16 mm. This is round, with flat face and flat back, on which is mounted, not quite in the middle, a suspension loop. The design on the face, done in raised lines, consists of a kind of rosette: a central small circle with 'petals' and loop around it, within an outer rim. This comes from west central Asia and dates to c. 2200-1800 B.C. The metal is in good condition and could be cleaned. The rim is a little worn.'; (V-784) 'A Stamp Seal of Bronze, 36 x 36 x 13 mm. This is round, with flat face and flat back on which is mounted a handle of inverted V-shape. The design, which is both compartmented and open-work, consists of a linear pattern: a simple cross joined to the outer rim and each arm also joined with two struts each side, not always quite matching, to this rim. The effect is as of four bushes or plants. This comes from west central Asia and dates to c. 2300-2000 B.C. It is a good example of its kind, and in very good condition.'; (V-790) 'A Stamp Seal of Bronze, 38 x 37 x 15 mm. This is round, with flat face and flat back on which is mounted a handle of inverted U-shape. The design, which is both compartmented and open-work, consists of a plain outer band, and within it but not touching it is a central rhomb, joined to the outer band by two rough crescent shapes, bulging at the ends, and close to each other in the middle. This comes from west central Asia and dates to c. 2300-2000 B.C. It is in very good condition save that the outer rim is worn down.'; (V-813) 'A Stamp Seal of Bronze, 34 x 34 x 12 mm. This is round with scalloped outer edge. The face and back are flat, with the remains of a handle on the back. The design, which is both compartmented and open-work, consists of a rosette: a central circle with ten petals around it, and beyond them a circle of ten shapes, one between each pair of petals. This comes from west central Asia and dates to c. 2300-2000 B.C. It has an unusual design, but is covered with heavy incrustation, which could be removed. The metal beneath appears to be sound, but is worn.'; (U-351) 'A Stamp Seal of Bronze, 35 x 34.5 x 15 mm. This is roughly round and with a handle of inverted V-shape on the back. Both face and back are flat, and the design is formed by lines: one dividing the circle into halves, and each half divided by two lines, but differently placed for each half. This comes from west central Asia and dates to c. 2300-2000 B.C. It is in very good condition and the metal has been conserved. it is a good example of its kind.'; (P-4) 'A Stamp Seal of Bronze, 36 x 35 x 14.5 mm. This is round, with flat face and flat back on which is mounted a handle of inverted V-shape. The design consists of a Greek cross within an outer border. This comes from west central Asia and dates to c. 2300-2000 B.C. It is in good condition, and the object has been conserved.'; (C-1) 'A Stamp Seal of Bronze, 46 x 48 x 18 mm. This is roughly round, compartmented, and open work except for the central star. There is a largish circle in the middle, a six-pointed star around it, and a band of 11 oblongs around the outer edge, 6 in three pairs matching the points of the stars. This comes from west central Asia and dates to c. 2300-2000 B.C. It is well preserved and a largish example of its kind. There is a loop handle on the back.' 278 grams total, 34-48mm (1 1/4 - 1 3/4"). The Signo collection, the property of a West London businessman, formed in the late 1980s-early 1990s; academically researched and catalogued by the late Professor Lambert in the early 1990s. [10]
