2nd-3rd century AD. A finely carved schist statue of nimbate Buddha, standing upright in a formal pose on a floral dais, wearing a flowing robe draped across his left shoulder, serene facial expression with hooded eyes, voluminous hair with curls arranged around the ushnisha, large earrings and necklace; arm-ring around his right biceps, right arm bent at elbow, hand absent; holding a vase containing the nectar of Kannon's compassion in his left hand; mounted on a custom-made stand. 4.3 kg total, 36.5cm with stand (14 1/2"). From a North West London collection; previously acquired in the 1980s.
