23rd-20th century BC. A mixed group of five discoid bronze seals comprising: one with cross to centre, background divided into quarters, each with five diagonal lines,one quarter absent, inverted V-shape handle to reverse; one with central cross, each arm forming the tail of an heraldic eagle, inverted V-shape handle to reverse; and three accompanied by typed and signed notes by the late W.G. Lambert, Professor of Assyriology at the University of Birmingham, 1970-1993, which state: (T-883) 'Stamp Seal of Bronze, 57.5 x 57.5 x 15mm. This is round, with flat face and flat back, on whch is mounted a handle of inverted V-shape. the design, which is both compartmented and open-work, consists of a six-petalled rosette within a plain outer band. The back has reinforced the design with hatched edges all over.'; (T-13) 'Stamp Seal of Bronze, 67 x 66 x 14mm. This is round, with flat face and flat back, on which a handle of inverted V-shape is mounted. The outer edge is scalloped. The design, which is compartmented and open-work consists of a central rosette with ten petals, within an inner band, beyond which are 14 scallops forming the outer band. This comes from west central Asia and dates to c. 2300-2000 B.C. It is a large example with a fine design and generally in very good condition. The whole thing is very slightly bent.'; (R-451) 'Stamp Seal of Bronze, 51 x 49 x 17mm. This is round, with flat face and flat back, on which is mounted a handle of inverted open-work. It consists of a Greek cross in the middle, each arm of which connects with the outer band by a rough oblong. The quarters thus created are filled with a small circle in the middle between the two arms of the cross, and then a band of two followed by a band of three irregular shapes reaching to the outer band. This comes from west central Asia and dates to c. 2300-2000 B.C. The surface now has some incrustation which could be removed, and the object generally is in good condition.' 210 grams total, 49-67 (2-2 1/2"). The Signo collection, the property of a West London businessman, formed in the late 1980s-early 1990s; collection numbers T-13, T-883, R-451, N-4, X-926, academically researched and catalogued by the late Professor Lambert in the early 1990s.
