Late 3rd-2nd millennium BC. A mixed group of ten bronze seals including four accompanied by typed and signed notes by the late W.G. Lambert, Professor of Assyriology at the University of Birmingham, 1970-1993, which states: (T-829) 'A Stamp Seal of Bronze, 41 x 40 x 21 mm. This bears the shape of the design, with flat face and flat back, on which is mounted a handle of inverted V-shape. The design, which is compartmented, consists of an outer limb which widens in the centre. This comes from west central Asia and dates to c. 2300-2000 B.C. There is heavy incrustation, which could be removed, and the ends of the limbs are worn down or broken off, but the piece is in fair condition.'; (T-746) 'A Stamp Seal of Bronze, 25 x 24 x 8 mm. This is roughly square, but to be viewed standing on a corner, with flat face and flat back, on which is mounted a handle of sheet metal in inverted V-shape. The edges of the piece are notched to reflect the design. This consists of a Greek cross in each corner and a figure in the middle occupying the remaining space. This comes from west central Asia and dates to c. 2300-2000 B.C. It has an interesting design and is in good condition.'; (T-951) 'A Stamp Seal of Bronze, 37 x 37 x 12 mm. This is round, with flat face and flat back, om which is mounted a handle of inverted U-shape. The design, which is both compartmented and open-work, consists of a quadrate cross within a plain outer band. This comes from west central Asia and dates to c. 2300-2000 B.C. It is covered with corrosion, but gives the good impression of the ancient object.'; (R-204) 'A Stamp Seal of Bronze, 51 x 49 x 14 mm. This is round with flat face and flat back, on which is mounted a handle of inverted V-shape. The design is both compartmented and open-work. It consists of a simple cross dividing the circle into four quarters, with four small squares at the centre of the cross and the remaining area split up into various shapes by struts. This comes from west central Asia and dates to c. 2300-2000 B.C. The metal is sound, and the piece generally in good condition, but one side is bent back and the outer edge is dented.' 190 grams total, 24-57mm (1 - 2 1/4"). The Signo collection, the property of a West London businessman, formed in the late 1980s-early 1990s; academically researched and catalogued by the late Professor Lambert in the early 1990s. [10]
