13th century AD. A substantial bronze mortar with domed underside, two large flange rims; bands of scrolled tendril ornament with reserved Kufic calligraphic text including wishes for prosperity, justice and good health, radiating piriform plaques to the upper rim, C-shaped staples with affixed beaded rings to the flanges and sidewall.
