Battery Reno on Morris Island, Charleston, South Carolina, Photograph by Haas & Peale Albumen photograph, 6.875 x 4.375 in., mounted to 8.75 x 6.125 in., featuring Battery Reno complete with soldiers, Parrott rifles, ammunition, sandbags, and earthworks, ca summer 1863. Credited on mount to Haas & Peale, Morris Island & Hilton Head, SC. Attached paper label reads, "No. 27.ÂBattery Reno. / Two 100-pounders, and one 8-inch Parrot [sic] Rifle. Breaching battery / against Sumter." Central in the photograph is an officer standing alone atop a large bunker and looking out over the battery. The Parrott rifles, under the command of Captain August W. Colwell, 3rd Rhode Island Heavy Artillery, can be seen to the right and left of the bunker.
