Give 'Em Jessie. Groton Junction, MA: September 25, 1856. Campaign Paper No. II. 4pp, 11.75 x 17.5 in. Rare newspaper supporting John C. Fremont, the first Republican nominee for US President in 1856, containing a large, front page graphic engraving of a Federal eagle that reads in large type below, "People's Nomination / For President / John C. Fremont / of California / For Vice President / Wm. L. Dayton / of New Jersey." Much text and five political cartoons throughout the issue in support of the first Republican to run for president. Only three issues of this Republican campaign paper were printed, making this "Campaign Paper No. II" a rare survivor. Â
