Lot of 2 CDVs, including portrait of a seated Lincoln taken by Alexander Gardner at Mathew Brady's gallery, Washington, DC, Sunday, February 24, 1861 (O-53B), with Anthony/Brady imprint on verso partially covered by applied paper label from "Higby & Stearns / Druggists / Detroit." Following a train journey during which President-elect Lincoln traveled nearly 2000 miles and visited seven states, he went to Brady's Washington studio, where Gardner took five poses of him, each portrait capturing Lincoln deeply absorbed in thought. Together with a standing portrait of Mary Todd Lincoln in her inaugural gown, with Brady's 1862 copyright on mount below image.Â
