Custer, George A. (1839-1876). Clipped signature with rank, ÂRespectfully &c / G.A. Custer / Bvt. Maj. Genl. Comd. Div. Clipped from a letter, along with the separate top portion of the sheet, printed ÂHeadquarters Third Division / Cavalry, written in is ÂM.M.D. (Middle Military District) and the date in his own hand, ÂNov. 7th, 11p.m. with printed year, "1864." Consignor relates that this signature and accompanying letterhead came from an autograph album containing hundreds of clipped Civil War signatures. 4.5 x 1 in. (sight), matted and framed together with CDV and the letterhead, 13.25 x 10.25 in.Albumen CDV of Custer as Major General of Volunteers, with John Goldin & Co., Washington, DC backmark. Illustrated in Katz's Custer in Photographs [K-70], originally taken May 1865.Â
