Lot of 2. Partially printed document of discharge for Private John R. Brown, Troop K, 6th Cavalry, 1p, 8.25 x 10 in., Fort Niobrara, NE. January 22, 1892. Signed by Colonel E.A. Carr, Commander of the 6th Cavalry. Brown, a farmer from New York who had enlisted in 1887, was discharged in consequence of the expiration of his term of service. Additional notations in margins note that Brown was 31 years old at the time of his enlistment and was "not known to be a married man." A testament to his "Excellent" character is signed at bottom by 2nd Lieutenant Robert L. Howze, Troop K, 6th Cavalry. Howze signs again on verso, endorsing Brown's record of military service, which includes participation in the campaign "against the Sioux in 1890 and 91," as well as an engagement "on White river S.D.
