Er war Schüler an der Ecole des Beaux-Arts und studierte bei Jules Coutan, Jules Cavelier und Louis-Ernest Barrias. Schon 1894 gewann er den wichtigen Preis Prix de Rome für seine Achilles-Skulptur.
