Großer Buddha-Kopf aus Vulkangestein, Borobudur/Java, 9. Jhdt.Vollplastisch gearbeiteter, überlebensgroßer Kopf aus dunkelgrauem Andesit. Das fein gearbeitete Antlitz Buddhas mit niedergeschlagenen Augen strahlt Verinnerlichung, Ruhe und Würde aus. Das Haar ist in feine Locken gelegt und bildet ein Ushnisha. Auf modernem Sockel montiert. Höhe 41 cm, Gesamthöhe 49 cm.Provenienz:Aus der Sammlung Joseph Maximilian Hartls (1888-1957), ab 1925 Deutscher Konsul in Fuzhou. Den hier vorliegenden Kopf hat er der Überlieferung nach bei seinem ersten Besuch in Borobudur im Februar 1912 erworben. Mounted on a modern pedestal. Height 41 cm, overall height 49 cm.Provenance: From the collection of Joseph Maximilian Hartl (1888-1957), German consul in Fuzhou as of 1925. By all accounts, he acquired this head during his first visit to Borobudur in February 1912.
