Pair of Chinese Qing Dynasty Gilt Bronze cloisonne roosters. Repoussed in a shape of a standing roosters, with head upward standing gracefully on its two legs. The face and crown are delicately decorated with attractive deep-red enamel. The body with cloisonne works and colorful enamel filling. Crowing as the sun rises, the rooster is considered a propitious yang creature, having the capacity to frighten off evil spirits. Further, the pronunciation of rooster in Chinese, is loosely homophonic to auspiciousness, both characters has the pronunciation ji but in different tones. Roosters crowns, or guan in Chinese, is homophonic with officials or public posts, guan, which are considered the path to wealth and power in the past. Four characters reign mark on base, Qianlong reign period.
