Chinese Yuan Dynasty sgraffito dragon blue monochrome porcelain ink box. Stoutly potted Chinese porcelain unto a slightly flattened round box, with rounded wide cavetto, correspondence dome lid, raised from rounded sides over a wide cavetto. The inner flange circumscribed around the containers lip allows for a perfect fitment of the covering with grayish creme-brown thick rings lines on the each rim. All reserved in deep blue underglaze base color which contrast against the creme-brown design color. The dome lid decorated with snarling huge imperial five claws dragon careening through cumulus clouds above thrashing Li-Shui waves in a creme brown color dragon squama around the box chasing flaming pearl amidst flames. The lower box festooned with flaming ruyi and vapor. Dragon is the symbol of the Emperor, the Son of Heaven, eternity, Yang and Yin, male vigor and fecundity, the Li-Shui wave pattern which is known to be the abode of dragons. The foot rim reveals the cut edges during the making process, and the base left unglazed with grayish creme-brown ground and dark spots of firing marks. The underside unglazed, revealed the pale-creme ground revealed and dark grayish brown spotted firing marks and edge-cut foot rim. The clay is very fine, with a brilliant glaze finish that was applied by a meticulous, the shape is uniformly proportioned.
