A Chinese purple ground silk lady's robe dating from the 19th century. The robe features forbidden stitch flowers and 8 flower roundels with a lotus and ruyi border at the bottom. Dimensions are: 50 inches tall X 56 inches wide. All measurements are approximate. Condition: Loose threads, a loose element at the neck, a few small tears, overall good condition. Provenance: From the estate of Mr. & Mrs. Martinson in northern Minnesota. Mr. Martinson's grandparents Andrew and Anna Martinson went to China in 1903 and Mr. Andrew Martinson died in China in 1913; the couple's son, Mr. Harold Martinson, our collector's father, was born in China, as was Mr. Martinson himself in 1931. The present Mr. & Mrs. Martinson later served as missionaries to Hong Kong in the 1960s. Items from the same collector were sold at our September Fine Asian Art & Antiques auctions, 2019.
