A TIBETO-CHINESE GILT-BRONZE FIGURE OF SHAKYAMUNI, the Buddha is sitting in dhyanasana on a double lotus throne with beaded rim, his left hand in dhyanamudra and his right hand in bhumisparshamudra, dressed in flowing robes with a distinct fold over his left arm, traces of colour, unsealed, 18th century, height c. 17 cmPROVENANCE:From the collection of the Swedish diplomat and doctor of philosophy, Rütger Essén (1890-1972). He was a chargé d'affaires in Tokyo 1920-21 and a friend of the Swedish explorer Sven Hedin.
