此件甪端以和田白玉种制作，玉质细腻晶莹，光泽温润而带有沁色。整体圆雕作一直立的甪端瑞兽造型，昂首挺胸、身躯壮硕；圆眼粗眉、蒜鼻方口、尖牙利爪、头生单角，脑后多生鬃毛，一派威严气势；颈带铃、腹如蜃，身具火焰，短尾似灵芝。据说甪端能够日行一万八千里，通四方语言，专为英明帝王传书护驾。寄寓了中国古代民众期盼国泰民安、人寿年丰的美好愿望。整体造型典雅精致，传神生动，制作工艺堪称高绝，为十分难得的文房陈设精品之器。
