本品坑石为材，通体呈石色青绿，质坚密莹润，有锋芒易下墨。砚身长方形，砚材硕大，形制规整，砚背琢抄手，砚堂平坦，一指槽墨池，三面起宽边，开窗雕刻螭虎纹，笔画质朴古雅，极具皇廷之气。抄手砚的砚底挖空，两边为墙足，可用手抄底托起故名之，长方形抄手砚为宋代砚之主流，明清两代多有仿制，本品便为此种佳品，颇具古意，得赵宋之神韵。通观整器，选材上乘，实为文房收藏之嘉选。
