This Chinese export teapot was most likely made in the mid eighteenth century due to its European subject matter and Chinese structural influence. Painted in a famille style with gold as the thematic color, the base of the teapot depicts a family crest(mirrored on either side of the teapot) with gold flowers on either side. The handle is hollow and forms from the base of the pot up and into the curvature of its top. it’s spout is straight and lined with gold on its mouth. The rim of the vessel has a gold pattern which is distinctly European. The base of the teapot is glazed but left undecorated. The lid loosely attaches to the vessel and has a distinctly Chinese bud like handle, which is small and was once painted solid gold. The gold decoration seen on the outer ridge of the lid mimics and compliments the pattern on the vessel as they mirror each other. The top of the lid has to bundles of gold flowers which spread horizontally against the curving surface of the lid. The bottom of the lid has been left unglazed however its interior has been glazed.
