This small sancai box is stout and circular in structure with the base of it’s body signified though a raised indentation. It’s body has a raised inner rim encompassed with a flattened edge, meant for the lid to rest on. The lid has a flattened dome shape with curved sides. The lid too has raised indentations which have collected the colored slip and turned a dark green. These dark markings signify the parts of the lid with its top detailed with several ringlet indentations. The outer surface of the box is color in traditional sancai fashion. D: 2.3 by 1.5 in (5.81 by 3.77 cm) Provenanec: estate of Dr. Andrew Hopkins,acquired in UK in 1988Condition: It appears some of the sancai glaze has chipped from the bottom of the base.
