An ivory table screen18th/19th century|Carved with a figure seated on a mountain path, a gourd flask slung at his side, his hands raised before him and face gazing upwards, polychrome pigments remaining, the reverse with a couplet from the poem "The Occasional Poem in Autumn (qiu ri ou cheng)" composed by the Song neo-Confucian philosopher Cheng Hao.|20.3cm (8in) x 9.5cm (3.3/4in).|Provenance|The couplet reads:|道通天地有形外,思入風雲變態中|Which may be translated as:|The formed and the formless are filled with the Tao.|Thoughts are of wind and clouds, always-changing.
