TLS, one page, 6 x 7, United States Senate, Office of the Democratic Leader letterhead, November 24, 1959. Letter to lawyer and businessman Benjamin H. Oehlert, Jr., in full: "Thanks very much and I certainly do appreciate your generosity. I appreciate it doubly because of your generous thoughts as to my capacityÂthoughts of which I feel unworthy but which I hope I will always deserve. I don't know whether it will be possible for me to address the Atlanta Rotary any time in the near future, but I will keep the thought in mind and possibly we can do it sometime." In fine condition. After graduating from the Wharton School and the University of Pennsylvania School of Law, Oehlert (1909Â1985) went into private practice and was later hired by the Department of State to work in the Mexican Claims Agency. He spent several years working in top offices for Coca-Cola, W. R. Grace & Co., and the Minute Maid Company before being appointed by President Lyndon B. Johnson to become Ambassador to Pakistan in 1967, a post he held until his retirement in 1969.Format: TLS
