Very rare, c. 1855, with PEACHES AND PLUMS exterior cover design.This is a rare Union case with original ambrotype image within, produced c. 1855 by S. Peck & Co., the creator of the Union case, which were made from a shellac and wood fiber thermoplastic which Peck named Union. The elaborate exterior case design has motifs of peaches and plums with stylized floral highlights. The interior has a facing panel of purple velvet to the reverse of the ambrotype, which is presented in a gilt metal frame with profuse floral decoration.
