Scarce, c. 1860, with A FAMILY PARTY exterior cover design.This is a scarce Union case with original ambrotype image within, produced c. 1860 by A.P. Critchlow & Co. The elaborate exterior case design, with profuse floral decoration, is based on A FAMILY PARTY, a steel engraving by William E. Tucker (1801-1857). The original print appeared in Godeys Magazine in 1850. The interior has a facing panel of purple velvet to the reverse of the two ambrotypes, which are presented in gilt metal frames with profuse floral decoration.
