Cornelius Hankins (Mississippi/Tennessee, 1863-1946) oil on canvas still life painting depicting a copper pot still and a pewter water pitcher arranged on a tabletop with a red backdrop. Signed lower left. Housed in a hand carved wooden frame. Sight - 21 1/2" H x 17 3/4" W. Framed - 30 1/2" H x 26 1/2" W. Early 20th century. Provenance: Private Southern Collection. Note: Hankins studied with Robert Henri, leader of the Ashcan School, and with William Merritt Chase in New York. He was active for much of his career in the Nashville area.
