Zheng Mukang (1901-1982), other names Shi Yuan, Shi Xuan and Mukang, is from Chaoyang of Guangdong Province. He was very interested in art and advertising in his childhood. He entered the Shanghai Academy of Fine Arts in 1918, focusing on portraiture. He studied under Feng Chaoran and learned the essence of Ming Dynasty paintings. He combined the light and dark methods, perspective methods of western painting, and traditional gongbi characters into one. He was also a part-time poet.
