Late 3rd-1st millennium BC. A mixed group of bronze seals, including nine accompanied by typed and signed notes by the late W.G. Lambert, Professor of Assyriology, University of Birmingham, 1970-1993 which state: (R-747) 'Stamp Seal of Bronze, 10 x 14 x 20mm. This has a flat oblong face, and back which rises steeply to a rounded top, below which it is pierced. the design on the face shows a standing quadruped with ears or horns and three spikes rising from the back. This comes from west central Asia and dates to c. 600-300 B.C. It reflects the shape of the Mesopotamian domed octagonal stamp seals, but the design is entirely local to west central Asia. It is a rarity and is in good state of preservation.': (R-767) 'Stamp Seal of Bronze, 38 x 26 x 21mm. The shape of this seal reflects the design, which is compartmented with flat face and flat back, on which a stout handle of inverted U or V-shape is mounted. The design consists of a central Greek cross with open ends so that each arm of the central cross is also the arm of another Greek cross. This comes from west central Asia and dates to c. 2300-2000 B.C. The metal is in good condition, but on of the outer crosses is missing and a second one is a little bent.'; (R-215) 'Stamp Seal of Bronze, 26 x 26 x 28mm. This has the shape of a trefoil, with three arms moving from the centre with curling ends. The design is hollowed out, with linear separation of the three arms. On the back of the seal a stalk handle is mounted, with pierced loop on the top. This comes from west central Asia and dates to c. 2000-1600 B.C. It is in very good state of preservation, the metal being in fine condition.'; (T-929) 'Stamp Seal of Bronze, 26 x 27 x 9mm. This has flat face and flat back, on which is mounted a handle of inverted U-shape. The design is both compartmented and open-work and consists of a star with 13 points, and in the centre is a Greek cross joined to the band of points by a struts from each of the eight tips. This comes from west central Asia and dates to c. 2300-2000 B.C. It is an attractive piece in good condition. The incrustation on the surface could be removed. The metal is in good state.'; (T-886) 'Stamp Seal of Bronze, 29 x 28 x 11mm. This is round, with falt face and convex back in the middle of which is a scalloped outer edge. The design on the face consists of eight shapes spiralling from the centre, perhaps depicting a four-winged monster of some kind. This comes from west central Asia and dates to c. 2300-2000 B.C. It is an unusual piece and in very good condition.'; (T-677) 'Stamp Seal of Bronze, 23.5 x 21 x 12mm. This is oblong, with flat face and flat back, on which is mounted a handle of inverted V-shape. The design on the face is compartmented and consists of a central circle and two crescents, one within the other, covering each corner. This comes from west central Asia and dates to c. 2300-2000 B.C. Two corners are a little dented, otherwise it is in very good condition.'; (T-721) 'Stamp Seal of Bronze, 27.5 x 26 x 14mm. This is oval, with flat face and flat back on which is mounted a handle of inverted V-shape. The design on the face consists of two opposite blunted V-shapes which nearly meet in the middle. This comes from west central Asia and dates to c. 2300-2000 B.C. There is corrosion on the surface which could be removed. The metal beneath appears to be in good condition. The piece generally is in very good condition.; (T-709) Stamp Seal of Bronze, 31 x 34 x 18mm. This is a very roughly round disc, with short pierced stalk handle on the back. The design on the face, in raised lines, consists of a central oval joined to the rim by a loop at each end, and by a single straight strut, while two other loops and a straight line fill spaces. This comes from west central Asia and dates to c. 2200-1800 B.C. There is some wear and damage, but generally the design is well preserved.'; 'Stamp Seal of Bronze, 16 x 16 x 18mm. This has a round, flat compartmented face, and a slightly convex back in the middle of which is a stalk handle ending in a suspension loop. The design consists of a simple cross and short strokes from the edge in the quarters so created. This comes from west central Asia and dates to c. 2100-1800 B.C. There is some incrustation on the surface, which could be removed, but the condition is good.' 132 grams total, 18-34mm (3/4-1 1/4").
