Rhode Island,Late 19th-Early 20th Century Ellis A. Rosenthal Two impressionist works, one of Sebascodegan Island or Great Island in the Gulf of Maine, the other a coastal view of Penobscot, Maine. Ellis Rosenthal, father of Jay Rosenthal, studied under Charles Gordon Harris and was a close family friend of the artist. Oil on board,Each board 16" x 20",Largest frame 20 1/4" x 24 1/2" Both signed "Ellis A. Rosenthal" lower right, one marked "Great Island N. F. S." and one marked "Penobscot ME 1961" on verso. From the collection of Jay and Maxine Rosenthal, Wilmington, Delaware. Mr. Rosenthal was an active member and advocate of the Delaware arts community having been a board member of the Delaware Art Museum and Delaware Center for Contemporary Arts.
