Many notable aviation events occurred in the 1920s that served to effectively shrink the world. In 1924, the first round-the-world flight was successfully completed by two Douglas World Cruisers. Planes such as the Fokker F.VIIa and Ford Trimotor began reliable passenger service between nations. In the late 1920s, transatlantic passenger service became a reality with the golden age of the airships. In 1929, Germany's 772-foot-long Graf Zeppelin became the first to fly around the world -- journeying over 21,000 miles in only 21 days! This magnificent dirigible inaugurated regular transatlantic service -- with stops at Germany, Japan and the United States -- and ushered in a new age of aviation that brought people living in the 20th century closer together.
