Christian Hilfgott Brand was born in Frankfurt an der Oder, but later moved to Frankfurt with his father before finally settling in Vienna in 1720. He primarily dedicated himself to landscape painting, and received numerous commissions from the Imperial court and from foreign dignitaries in the residential city of Vienna. He was named one of the first honourary members of the Vienna Academy of Arts in 1751. Today, many of his works are housed in the Museum Belvedere in Vienna and the Brukenthal-Museum in Sibiu. Christian Hilfgott Brand wurde in Frankfurt an der Oder geboren, siedelte aber mit seinem Vater nach Hamburg über, bevor er sich schließlich 1720 in Wien niederließ. Er widmete sich vor allem der Landschaftsmalerei und erhielt hierfür sowohl vom kaiserlichen Hof als auch von ausländischen Diplomaten der Residenzstadt Wien zahlreiche Aufträge. 1751 wurde er einer der ersten Ehrenmitglieder der Akademie der bildenden Künste. Eine Vielzahl seiner Werke bewahren heute das Museum im Belvedere in Wien sowie das Brukenthal-Museum in Sibiu auf.
