A George II mahogany combined tea and card table, probably Irish, circa 1760, the twin hinged rectangular top with outset front corners, opening to a tea table and then a card table incorporating a baize inset surface and counter wells, the shaped frieze above cabriole shaped tapering legs surmounted by stylised fluted terminals and carved acanthus leaves, terminating in pad feet, 72cm high, 79cm wide, 38cm deep Provenance: Private Collection, Wales The secret drawer to the rear frieze of this table is an unusual and interesting feature.For related folding tables displaying related unusual designs of carving, see The Knight of Glin and James Peill, Irish Furniture, Yale University Press, 2007, page 237.
