A bronze figural furniture foot comprising a splayed lion's paw on a hexagonal tiered base, developing to a bust and torso of Dionysus/Bacchus standing with animal-skin swag draped around the shoulder, left hand raised; rectangular socket to the reverse; mounted on a custom-made stand. 1.3 kg total, 24cm including stand (9 1/2"). Property of a retired English university professor; previously with Bonhams, 8 May 2013, lot 166; formerly in the Joseph Klein collection, formed in New York, USA, between 1941 and 1980; thence by descent; accompanied by copies of the relevant Bonhams catalogue pages.
