Wodehouse, P.G. A Damsel in Distress London: Herbert Jenkins Limited, 1920 (but, 1919). First English edition, first issue. 8vo. 319 pp. Inscribed by Wodehouse to his bibliographer and biographer David A. Jasen on title-page: "To David/from Plum/P.G. Wodehouse." Original dark red cloth-covered boards, cocked, moderately worn, scattered soiling to front and rear boards, spine slightly darkened, short tear at upper front board joint; all edges trimmed; hinge starting at pp. 176-177; in later issue dust-jacket (similar to McIlvaine reissue #10, 22nd printing, but without 5' price label on spine, but with 5' price printed on inside front flap). McIlvaine A24b. Originally serialized in the Saturday Evening Post between May and June 1919. Later adapted into the 1937 musical of the same name, starring Fred Astaire, with music by George and Ira Gershwin, directed by George Stevens, and screenplay by Wodehouse.
