A Chinese cinnabar frame with a black lacquer ground panel. The panel is inset with white jade stone figures of people, cranes, and flowers. The frame dates to the Republic period, but the jades date from the Ming dynasty. Dimensions are: lacquer ground- 39 inches tall X 10 inches wide; 99.1 cm tall X 25.4 cm wide. Frame- 42 1/2 inches tall X 12 3/4 inches wide; 108 cm wide X 32.4 cm wide. All measurements are approximate. Condition: It is in good condition. Provenance: From the estate of Mr. & Mrs. Levin. Mr. Levin was the US Consul General to Hong Kong in the 1980s, and later served as the US Ambassador to Burma from 1987 to 1990.
