A French Empire ormolu 'amphora' mantel clock The case in the Manner of Pierre-Philippe Thomire, Paris, early 19th century The movement by Jean-Baptiste Delettrez, late 19th century, with a circular eight-day two train bell striking movement with anchor escapement regulated by decorative starburst bob pendulum with Brocot regulation to suspension, the backplate stamped with oval J.B.D. trademark to upper left and numbers 24831, 18, 13 to lower margin, the circular white enamel Roman numeral dial with blued steel spade hands set within ropetwist milled bezel, in a case modelled as a twin handled amphora applied in relief with winged putti partaking in industrial pursuits to collar over twin winged Classical females flanking the dial, the sides applied with bearded male masks issuing foliate trail cast handles terminating with owl mask inset scrolls, the waist with moulded collar and applied laurel wreath over satin gilt flared support incorporating engine-turned mouldings, resting on a stepped square socle applied with mount cast with Amour flanked by leafy scrolls, on bun feet, 43cm (17ins) high
