Coming from heirs of original American collector, who purchased this and other antique Chinese and Japanese fine objects in Washington, DC, 1930s (see Lot 23 of our store for more), is this adorable antique porcelain bear, likely from Japan. Owner traveled there in 1938. This rtic styled bear is typical of Japanese porcelain glazes and natural, almost abstract and modern look. Simply timeless! Signed on bottom with impressed script (translation unknown, sorry). The bear has a white helmet shape on its hip, we don't know what that is. The collector bought items from The Chinese Shop, Duncan & Duncan, and Simon Krupshaw, dealers in Washington. We can give buyer her name upon sale (the collector died in 1944). Measuring 4-1/2" high x 5-3/8" wide x 3" deep, and weighs 11.5 oz. Condition: excellent, no damage seen other than normal surface wear of glaze (bear's nose).
