Offering a wonderful, framed and under glass, 19th centuryJapanese wood block print. The print measures 12 1/2" X 18 1/2 on the portionthat is seen. With frame it measures 21" X 26". This was probablyfolded at some time in its life becae a faint line can be seen down thecenter. Featured is a scene with intricately attired servantspulling a royal palanquin. This wood block is very refined with simple butelegant expression and color. The artist has signed his name in ink characters. No tears or insect holes or stains. There is some slightyellowing and aging of the paper and as I mentioned, the center fold line can be vaguely seen. This is one of two Japanese wood block prints I own,variations on the same subject. Perhaps it was a series. There are similaritiesin the artist's signature but they are not exactly the same.
