Japanese Kofuku-no-inori gosho ningyo (agood luck wish palace doll) of a plump male child squatting with hisknees pulled to his chest and his feet close together, both hands andhis sides, traditionally given amongst the nobility as a wish forobtaining good fortune, all carved of wood covered in multiple layers ofburnished gofun with painted features, applied and painted chirimen biband kerchief. Several gofun cracks on his backside and on one arm, minor pigment losses and signs of age otherwise fine condition. 3-1/8 in. high. Edo Period, circa 1820.
