A Cheyenne Ledger Drawing Old White Woman c. 1887 colored pencil and ink on ledger paper This image depicts a dance of the Cheyenne warrior society. Each participant is decorated with striped face paint and is wearing a choker and trade shirt. Each holds a small drum in their left hand and the drum stick in their right hand. Behind the leader, at left, a scalp lock is suspended from a ceremonial pole. Drawn and painted by Old White Woman (T. B. Robe), whose work has appeared at the Minneapolis Institute of Art and published in Visions of the People: A Pictorial History of Plains Indian Life.
