A Makonde Mask Tanzania, early to mid 20th century Hardwood with black pigment all over, the face with unusually delicate, shallow features, fleshy lips parted showing lower teeth, linear scarification marks. Adze marks and some glossy patina from rubbing on back. Drilled holes around perimeter, eyes, and nostrils. In good condition, appropriate for age, medium, and origin; numerous scrapes and scratches.
